The conflict between the Muslim and Christian communities within Egypt is probably not new news to the average American. According to a Breitbart news article, Egypt is home to the largest Christian community in the Middle East. Officially about ten percent of the ninety-five million population are Christian, although many believe the figure is significantly higher (Kent 2018). Donââ¬â¢t waste time! Our writers will create an original "Global Citizenship" essay for you Create order As a matter of fact, Coptic Christians are the largest religious minority in Egypt. It is because there is no exact distinction that is believed, that there is either a continuous hidden or public conflict of interest. More specifically, the attacks on Coptic Christian communities in Egypt. For reference, the Christian Coptic Orthodox Church of Egypt is based on the teachings of Saint Mark who brought Christianity to Egypt during the reign of the Roman emperor Nero in the first century (The Coptic Network 2006). The reason this was brought up was to offer incite to the beliefs of those who are being discussed. Being a religious minority, Coptic Christians are often persecuted as well as being repeated victims of attacks on their place of worship. Unfortunately they have also been known to suffer marginalization as well blame from the State. The suffering and persecution of the Coptic Christians in Egypt does not stop in their history, many of these actions occur today. A prime example from an ABC news article would be that they are frequently openly discriminated against or lynched, and the predominantly Muslim Government is subsequently criticized for turning a blind eye to their plight (Viney 2017). They are even withheld from reasonable requests such as permission to build places of worship. An example of a more specific case would be two church bombings near Easter of 2017 killing 49 people. That does not even include the fifteen plus girls who were forced to marry Muslims and convert to Islam or be killed after they were kidnapped in 2017. So, that the problems have been stated, what are some of the causes? Well, The Guardian reports that 128 Christians were killed in Egypt for their faith and more than 200 were driven out of their homes in 2017. It attributed the rise in persecution to the overspill of Islamic terrorists driven out of Iraq and Syria (Sherwood 2018). Based on the reasoning of this entry, one can believe that the recent increases in attacks on Coptic Christians could be based on the inflow of Islamic extremists from Iraq and Syria. With the problems and causes have been covered, one may ask themselves what can I do as a global citizen to help? Well, there are plenty of things that one can do to help the relief effort. As an individual, one can fund support groups to aid in religious oppression relief organizations. There are multiple organizations raising money to aid in the relief of those directly impacted by these attacks, an example would be fondly.com with their Support the Coptic Christians in Egypt fund. If funding is not a very enticing option, there are mission trips that are offered both nationally and internationally to actively offer support to those who are in need. Mission trips are definitely a great way to have a personal investment in the service that you provide. If traveling is on the mind, what better way to see the world than to help those with a personal face-to-face connection. If financial support or personal involvement is an intangible reality for some, there are still options to help out the cause. Offering public support and raising awareness is one of the many great tools one can use to be an involved global citizen as well as to help be a part of the solution. Ignorance is one of the biggest problems facing us as global citizens today. That is why we need to spread the word of what is going on around the world that we share. No one is expected to fund absolutely every, and all organizations because no one can feasibly be capable of doing that. However, that does not mean that there arent plenty of people who have a personal connection with one issue or another. That is why we need to spread the knowledge of this major issue, so that those who are personally compelled, those who are closely related are able to know what is going on. It is very hard to do something about a problem that one cares about if no intel has been provided to make the problem k nown. That is why it is our duty as global citizens to spread the word and make these injustices widely known so that change can be implemented. Froogle V. Mary Ccp 410.10 Free Essays
Relevant Facts Our Client, Froogle (ââ¬Å"Froogleâ⬠) has retained our firm to file suit againt Mary, a small manufacturer and retailer of downhill snow skis. Froogle and Mary signed an agreement in January of 2012. On or about March 15, 2012 Froogle discovered that Mary had breached several of the terms of their agreement. We will write a custom essay sample on Froogle V. Mary Ccp 410.10 or any similar topic only for you Order Now We filed suit in Superior Court for the County of Monterey in Salinas, California on behalf of Froogle on May 31,2012. Mary, a resident of Vermont, responded by filing a motion for non-conveniens claiming that because her business and residence are in Vermont, California has no jurisdiction over her. Mary violated the terms of her agreement and should be brought to answer for her actions in a California court of law, as Froogleââ¬â¢s main place of business is Salinas, California. Issue Presented The issue is whether or not Froogle has jurisdiction over Mary who is an out of state resident and business owner. Applicable Law Under the California Code of Civil Procedure ââ¬Å"A court of this state may exercise jurisdiction on any basis not inconsistent with the Constitution of this state or of the United States. â⬠CCP à §410. 10 Also known as Californiaââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"Long Arm Statueâ⬠the law provides that the use is usually constitutional ââ¬Å"where the defendant has certain minimum contacts with the forum state and there has been reasonable notice of the action against him or her. (Cite) Additionally, under the ruling ââ¬Å"Any person may maintain an action or proceeding in a court of this state against a foreign corporation or nonresident person where the action or proceeding arises out of or relates to any contract, agreement, or undertaking for which a choice of California law has been made in whole or in part by the parties thereto and which (a) is a contract, agreement, or undertaking, contingent or otherwise, relating to a transaction involving in the aggregate not less than one million dollars ($1,000,000), and (b) contains a provision or provisions under which the foreign corporation or nonresident agrees to submit to the jurisdiction of the courts of this state. â⬠In 9th Circuit Court of Appeals Gator. com Corp. , Plaintiff-appellant, v. L. L. Bean, Inc. , Defendant, appelee, L. L. Bean had an internet catalog and mail order site or a ââ¬Å"virtual storeâ⬠. Court held that LL Beanââ¬â¢s marketing and retail activities and ââ¬Å"virtual store â⬠created a ââ¬Å"consistent and substantial pattern of business relations in California, sufficient to confer personal jurisdiction over the Maine-based company [Gator}. â⬠In Pavlovich v. Superior Court, the court addressed the issue of internet and jurisdiction holding that ââ¬Å"[t]he Internet, as a mode of communication and a system of information delivery is new, but the rules governing the protection of property rights, and how that protection may be enforced under the new technology, need not be. â⬠2001 Cal. App. LEXIS 623 (Cal. Ct. App. August 7, 2001) However, in Zippo Mfg. Co. v. Zippo Dot Com, Inc. , the court determined that ââ¬Å"A passive website that does little more than make information available is not generally grounds for the exercise of personal jurisdiction. â⬠It then goes on to say that ââ¬Å"The middle ground is occupied by the interactive websites where a user can exchange information with the host computer. (Zippo test cases) 957 F. Supp. 1119 (W. D. Pa. 1997). The middle ground definition cited above is key in Froogleââ¬â¢s case because Froogle was not simply a passive website. Users were able to click on the Froogle ââ¬Å"storeâ⬠and search for items. The store then quoted pricing and directed the user to the defendantââ¬â¢s website or alternatively they could purchase through Froogle, using their credit card or other financing available and Froogle would forward the order to the defendant to fulfill the order. In Frank Snowney v. Harrahs the plaintiff reserved a room by telephone from his California residence. He was told that the room would cost $50/night plus tax. When he received the bill he paid a $3 energy surcharge. Plaintiff filed a class action against Harrahs alleging they charged him and other guests more than the advertised priceâ⬠¦. â⬠The defendants filed a motion to quash for lack of personal jurisdiction, arguing that they were incorporated and based out of Nevada, they conducted no business in California and had no bank accounts in California. The plaintiff submitted that ââ¬Å"the defendants 1-advertised extensively to California residents through billboards in California, newspapers and radio television; 2) maintained an interactive website that accepted reservations from California residents. The Court concluded that defendants had sufficient contacts in California to justify jurisdiction in the state. 116 Cal. App. 4th 996, (2004). Application to Our Case Froogle is a California corporation with home offices in Salinas, California. Froogleââ¬â¢s contract was signed by the defendant and the defendant was well awa re of Froogleââ¬â¢s location. Froogleââ¬â¢s software was developed in California and their servers are all located in various parts of California ââ¬â Froogle is clearly a California product. As the defendant used online transactions through Froogleââ¬â¢s site to set up their account and perform other implementation functions it can be easily argued that this was a California based transaction. Further to this, the defendant benefitted from Froogleââ¬â¢s high profile in California, expanding their customer base throughout the state and thus increasing their sales. The California Code protects Froogleââ¬â¢s right to jurisdiction in California under the ââ¬Å"Long Armâ⬠statute. Although there are rare circumstances where this can be overturned, the statute provides the ability for a California corporation that has entered under a contract or similar document with a non-resident partner to gain jurisdiction over that entity should breach of that contract occur. The Snowney case more than implies that if one enters into an agreement with a California entity, and a breach or other violation of the agreement occurs, the parties will more than likely be bringing their action to a California court. The reservation can certainly be interpreted to be a contract as it binds both parties to an obligation and by acceptance of the terms of a reservation, the parties have entered into an agreement or contract. Froogle has the right as a California corporation to file their action in the state of California. The defendant knew it was entering into a contract with a California corporation based out of Salinas, CA. The defendant chose the website due to its power in the retail internet market. It also took advantage of the plaintiffââ¬â¢s website store which brought leads to the defendants store from prospective customers. The defendantââ¬â¢s business benefitted greatly from its presence in the plaintiffââ¬â¢s search engine and webstore. The defendant has no right to jurisdiction in this case and this proceeding should continue in California. How to cite Froogle V. Mary Ccp 410.10, Essay examples

It is true across all diverse industries that in order to stay competitive, organisations must be able to utilise the various tools that technology has to offer. Technological factors have been of growing importance, particularly in recent years. A major factor involved in these technology issues is the use of the Internet as a major issue to modern organisations. The Internet has been rapidly growing since it's inception and is now commonly used in all sectors of societies, in all corners of the globe. The Internet has quickly become one of the most valuable assets in modern technology, and as such, is developing as an integral part of modern commerce. As with past technologies, the Internet will have future technological advances develop from its own growth. The task the organisations of in the new century? (When Companies Connect, 1999, p.19) The Internet has lead to the birth and evolution of electronic commerce or E-commerce. E-commerce has now become a key component of many organisations in the daily running of their business. Simply defined, electronic commerce is a system of online shopping and information retrieval accessed through networks of personal computers. (Reedy, J. Schullo, S. Marketers develop their own recipe of promotional tactics to fit the product lines or industries in which they compete. Now electronic communications tools are and will continue to be an important ingredient in the promotional mix (Reedy, J. Schullo, S. Zimmerman, K. 2000, pg. 29) In assessing the implications of E-commerce in terms of marketing, it is important to understand its impact in respect to marketing strategy formulation. As the Internet, and in turn E-commerce has developed, and continues to evolve and grow, it is vital that any organisation, in any particular industry, must base it's strategic planning around such a rapidly growing medium. The growth of the Internet is an environmental influence that must be embraced and understood so to successfully plan for future marketing i mplementation. In order to successful realise the impact that E-commerce has in terms of marketing, it is important to break the area of interest into some key areas. As most of the issues that arise in terms of E-commerce represent organisations entering the environment, it seems natural to base discussion around this. Therefore, the bulk of the literature review relates existing organisations entering into the E-commerce market environment. In successfully identifying the relationship between E-commerce and strategy, the issues are categorised as follows: 1. Strategic analysis ? Understanding the environment 2. Identifying the strategic options/SWOT analysis ? Strategic Advantages/Disadvantages ? Advertising ? Electronic cost cutting/publishing/Process 3. Corporate level, Business level, d Marketing level 4. Retailing in E-commerce ? Implementation Issues ? Financial ? Performance monitoring 5. Conclusion ? Based on current knowledge state To gain a clearer understanding of the im plication of E-Commerce in the formulation of marketing strategy, it is imperative to gain a clear understanding of the environment and it's relevant effects. This helps in understanding the rationale in a developing marketing strategy, particularly the influences of E-Commerce on its make-up. The next crucial element is to gain an understanding of E-commerce itself, as well as the current and possible future developments. In understanding E-commerce's impact on strategic foundations, an organisation's strategies can be more clearly focused. Once the organisation and E-commerce's respective environments are clear it is

Legalization of marijuana Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1750 words
Legalization of marijuana - Research Paper Example However, there is very little evidence to prove the claims of negative effects of Marijuana on a person. The purpose of this paper is to discuss both sides of the issue while championing the side of legalized Marijuana sale and use based upon factual evidence from highly reputable newspaper and similar sources. Let me start off this discussion with the beliefs of the naysayers. Marijuana has always been listed as an illegal drug. This classification means that Marijuana, even when used for medical purposes will cause an addiction among its users. More so if people are allowed open access to the drug from an early age. Those who are opposed to the legalization of Marijuana continue to do so even if there are claims of medical benefits from its use. According to these people, there have not been any significant clinical studies to prove that the plant actually has any medical benefits that will aid a patient during his healing process (ââ¬Å"In Our Opinion: Marijuana Should Not Be Mad e Legalâ⬠). So their argument is that the claims of medicinal use for the plant are baseless and are merely debate points that the supporters of the legalization of Marijuana use in a futile attempt to get Marijuana declared legal, at least for medicinal purposes. The opinion of the naysayers is that even as a medicinal drug, Marijuana has the ability to have debilitating effects upon the user. In the Netherlands, a study showed that 50 % of the patients with psychosis are Marijuana users. While there is a 4.5 chance that heavy users will develop psychosis. Even as the medical content of Marijuana, known as CBD or Cannibol shows some promise of being an effective medicinal tool to some extent, it is important to remember that Marijuana is still considered a criminal drug and as such may cause serious side effects (ââ¬Å"Marijuana Shouldn't be Legalizedâ⬠). Due to the ease that accompanies the cultivation of Marijuana, it is readily available, which is the major factor in the drug being the most highly abused in the United States. It is this sort of addiction that produced a great cost that resulted in the prohibition of Marijuana.
